Description

A unique opportunity has arisen with the sale of Ardnadam Pier and Ticket Office.  The building could be used for a variety of ventures once the appropriate planning has been consented
and includes the Ticket Office and Ardnadam Pier.

The pier is located on the west bank of The Holy Loch in the scenic area of Sandbank near Dunoon with a coastal road running from The Western Ferry Service Hunters Quay to the Pier which is just over 1 and a half miles from the ferry. From the Ticket Office and Pier there are stunning views looking North towards the hills at Benmore and surrounding hills over Kilmun on the East side of the Loch. There is a sailing club and The Holy Loch Marina close by.

Ardnadam Pier is approximately 160m (524 ft) long and is the longest of the Firth of Clyde piers. The pier boundary extends to 80 feet on either side of the pier. It was built in 1858 and served as a traditional steamer pier and a means of transport to Glasgow. The pier was opened in 1858 to serve a growing development of marine villas to the north-west of Sandbank.  With the decline of the steamers, the Royal Navy established a base here during WW2 it again became busy. A few quiet years followed, but in 1961 the first US Polaris submarine sailed in to the Holy Loch. The American Navy eventually withdrew from the area in 1992.

The pier was eventually sold in 2004 and the new owner demolished the now depilated ticket office and replaced it with a new ticket office built in the same style to upkeep the look of the area. It was built in 2013. The pier itself is in need of some upgrading to make it safe for fishermen and sailors to use if required by the new owners.
