Description

Whitehall is named after its first resident Dr George White, the local doctor in Aberdour and is one of the larger and more impressive houses in the village. Whitehall retains many fine exterior and interior features and is Listed Category C.

Whitehall is built of stone under a pitched slate roof and displays ornate carvings and glass etchings. It has been fully modernised but retains a wealth of period features including high ceilings with decorative cornicework, working window shutters and open fireplaces. The hall on the ground floor and landing on the first floor linked by a fine central staircase are particularly notable. The accommodation comprises:

Front door to tiled vestibule with coat hooks and half glazed door to inner hall with impressive central staircase with WC beside. Under stairs store. Back porch with fitted cupboards. Separate home office.

Drawing room with French doors to decked terrace outside. Open fireplace with white marble mantel, fitted oak dresser (available in addition) and bay window with working shutters.

Dining room with black marble fireplace and bay window with working shutters. Utility room with glazed door to paved terrace outside, fitted cupboards with sink, LG steam washing machine, Zanussi drier, Worcester central heating boiler and hatch to under floor access.

Kitchen with French doors to garden, fitted floor and wall units, Samsung fridge freezer, Rangemaster cooker with six gas burners, two ovens and grill, Bosch microwave, island unit with 1 ½ sink, breakfast bar and Bosch dishwasher. Original bells.

First Floor

Central stair splits and leads up to a galleried first floor landing. Arched window opposite and arches to the bedrooms. Shelved linen store and WC off.

Sitting room with bay window with working shutters, decorative cornice and fireplace with tiled inset and white marble mantel. Study (or bedroom 6) with cast iron fireplace and storeroom off. Bathroom with free-standing bath, WC, washbasin, double shower compartment and cupboard with solar powered hot water cylinder.

Principal bedroom with bay window with working shutters. Two dressing rooms one with fully fitted wardrobes and concealed door to bathroom with bath with shower attachment, twin wash basins, WC and heated towel rail. The en suite also has underfloor heating.

Second floor landing with roof light. Two front-facing bedrooms with dormer windows (one used as music room). Two back facing bedrooms with part coombed ceilings. Bathroom with bath with electric shower.

Outside

The garden is fully enclosed by walls to the front and back and fences to the sides. It has an impressive entrance with wrought iron gates and a paved drive leading to a gravel sweep in front of the house. There is a front lawn with a shrub bed beside. To the north of the house is a paved area with raised beds and fitted benches. There is a pergola with a tiled path fringed by privet hedges linking to the front lawn. In the corner is a summer house with wooden decking and a barbeque area.

To the south and east of the house are lawns and shrub beds. There is decking outside the drawing room and a wooden garden shed with a log store beside. There is a double garage built of concrete block with an electric up and over door and wooden bin storage alongside.

Location

Whitehall has a prominent setting in the coastal village of Aberdour. It is on Shore Road which is the road that leads from the High Street down the hill to the Black Sands beach. There is a park opposite with a bowling green and tennis courts and Aberdour Golf Course is just beyond. Aberdour railway station is within 300 metres of the front gate.

There are coastal views in both directions from the upper floors and Inchcolm Island can be seen. There is also an outlook to Aberdour Castle from the back windows. The nearby Fife Coastal Path provides access to miles of coastal walks.

Aberdour is a historic coastal village in the Kingdom of Fife. It is a pleasant and peaceful community which also acts as a commuter village to the larger local towns as well as Edinburgh. The location, a short distance from the golf course, tennis club and beaches, is excellent for families. The village has two beaches including popular Silver Sands, which is considered one of the finest Blue Flag beaches in Scotland.

Edinburgh is only 18 miles away and Edinburgh Airport is on the near side of the city. The M90, just 4 miles to the west, provides fast links to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth. The nearby railway station provides regular services into Edinburgh making for an easy commute.

Aberdour has a good range of local amenities including a number of popular pubs and restaurants. Asda and Tesco supermarkets can be found in nearby Dalgety Bay. There is a local boat club and Aberdour Golf Club is a private members parkland course, with stunning vistas over the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh. The village also has its own primary school, and the nearest secondary school is in Inverkeithing. The Edinburgh private schools are within daily reach and Dollar Academy has a school bus service from the village.
