Description

This very attractive, unlisted, detached and double fronted former Manse, constructed of local stone under a tiled roof, is wonderfully positioned in an elevated spot in the heart of the very popular village of South Petherton. Finials atop intricately designed moulded gable ends provide a delightful first impression. The front door, that sits beyond an ornate timber framed and tiled porch, opens into a large entrance hall off which the three spacious sitting rooms with lovely high ceilings can be found. With a variety of bay and mullion windows, marble fireplaces, recessed shelving units, covered radiators, dado and picture rails all are afforded a unique character and ultimately great versatility of use. A downstairs shower room, with utility space and housing for the boiler, further enhances this flexible layout. A dining room with wood flooring and a fireplace with exposed surround is the ideal space for entertaining friends and family, positioned as it is just off the kitchen that sits towards the rear of the property. The kitchen itself is large and very well appointed with stone flooring and plenty of units under a granite worktop. There is a large Rangemaster cooker with gas hob over, integrated Bosch dishwasher, space and connection for a large fridge freezer and a pantry that provides further storage space and room for a separate freezer. A glazed well in the centre of the kitchen floor makes for an unusual and interesting conversation piece.
Stairs then rise from the entrance hall to the first floor galleried landing that allows light to permeate the centre of the property. There are four excellent bedrooms one of which, along with a superb vaulted ceiling, triple aspect and gas effect wood burner, has the added appeal of a large dressing room with plenty of storage. The shower room and bathroom with separate cubicle are also both beautifully presented. Given the elevated position, the views across the village are also a real feature.

OUTSIDE
A driveway, bordered by a stone wall, rises to parking for several cars with the front garden being mainly laid to lawn with a deep border. A pedestrian path with wrought iron gate enables easy access into the village with its many amenities. Mature shrubs, trees, a small pond and timber shed give this garden an established feel with year round colour and interest, whilst also offering enough of a blank canvas for the avid gardener to indulge in. The rear garden has been cleverly landscaped to provide a sheltered and private area just off the kitchen, with raised flower beds and exposed stone, ideal for a spot of al fresco dining.

The lasting impression is certainly of an attractive, light and bright house with flexible accommodation in a very popular and convenient location.

The beautiful town of Sherborne is centred around the Abbey, founded in 705 and renowned for its spectacular fan vaulting, and which sets the tone for the whole town which is widely known across Dorset, Somerset and the southwest for its beauty.

Our office occupies a Grade II listed property in the heart of the town, and the large shop window is highly visible to those passing by. It fits neatly into our regional network of Shaftesbury, Dorchester, Taunton and Exeter. Liaising with these offices, we sell all types of property throughout West Dorset, South Somerset and East Devon, including townhouses, cottages, village properties, rectories, manor houses and small farms.
