Location
Tucked away at the end of a long private drive, this unique property enjoys an elevated position with commanding panoramic views over the Vale of Avalon and Glastonbury Tor and across the moors to the sea at Burnham. It offers rare seclusion with the benefit of village amenities and easy access to local hubs.

The vibrant village of Pilton is one of Somerset’s most desirable locations. Nestled between Wells and Glastonbury and Castle Cary, it is steeped in heritage and charm. Perhaps best known internationally as the home of the world-renowned Glastonbury Festival, Pilton remains a peaceful rural community for the rest of the year.

The village boasts a church, a well-supported village hall, a pub, and an active community. It’s just 2 miles from Shepton Mallet, 6 miles from Wells, and within easy reach of Bath, Bristol and Castle Cary (mainline station to London Paddington in approx. 90 minutes).

Description
Nestled at the edge of Pilton, this lovingly converted former stone barn occupies a commanding ridge line with far-reaching vistas over rolling countryside. A private gravel drive leads to a parking/turning courtyard, flanked by a charming pergola leading to elevated grassed viewing terraces.

The grounds extend to open paddocks enclosed by mature hedgerows and featuring a tranquil wildlife pond. Benches positioned around the pond and terraced seating encourage alfresco living under wide skies. A spiral stair ascends to the first-floor terrace and studio, perfect for enjoying summer sunsets over field and skyline.

Accommodation Style & Atmosphere
Decorated with an eclectic mix of gallery-style artwork, warm furnishings, and botanical touches, the interior strikes a balance between barn-like authenticity and comfortable, contemporary living. Each room opens into nature, connecting residents to the landscape beyond.

Flooded with natural light, the interior displays delightful characteristics — exposed roof rafters, vaulted ceilings, fresh gallery-painted walls and colourful carpets—creating a warm, creative and lived-in ambience.
The drawing room is the heart of the house and is a beautifully calm room. anchored by stone walls, a hearth (with a wood burning stove), floor-to-ceiling windows, a gallery above and French doors to a south and west facing terrace.
An inner hall, with a shower room, leads to the fitted kitchen and beyond to a utility room and conservatory acting as rear porch and ideal for boots, coats and dogs.
On the west side of the kitchen is a large garden room which is equally suited as a dining room, and which takes full advantage of the magnificent views.
Returning to the main hall, a side hall leads to a study area, walk-in store cupboard and two large bedrooms, one having an en suite shower room and one equally suited as a sitting room.

A staircase rises to a calm and peaceful galleried office which has excellent westerly views to the Tor.
Adjacent is a large bedroom with fitted wardrobe, en suite washroom and a doorway to a roof terrace with a glass balustrade and spiral iron staircase to the garden. Needless to say, it has superb views.

About the area
Glastonbury has been a religious centre throughout history and back into the times of legends. The Celtic monastery evolved into one of England's wealthiest and most influential abbeys and the town grew up alongside it. Today it’s a small but thriving town and a major tourist venue, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. Medieval Glastonbury - designated a conservation area - clusters around the evocative ruins of the Abbey. To the northwest is Wells, the smallest city in England (population 10,000). Its centre is the marketplace (local markets twice a week) surrounded by many medieval buildings including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace. Immediately to the south (2 miles) of Glastonbury is the more recent town of Street and these centres provide a huge range of facilities and amenities. Shepton Mallet is a couple of miles away and has beautiful old walled walks around its centre and exceptional listed buildings, as well as a local market and large retail park. Southeast is Castle Cary which is one of the prettiest towns in Somerset and which dates back to Norman times. Its population is towards 3,000 and has a town centre with historic buildings, the nearby “Newt” and of course the rail station with trains under 2 hours to Paddington. There are excellent local schools, and the private sector includes Millfield, Wells Cathedral School, Downside, All Hallows and the Bruton and Sherborne schools.
