Description
PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
Situated on the south-easterly fringes of the popular large Mendip village of Winscombe is 'The Thrift' an enchanting family home offering exceptionally flexible accommodation within a private parkland-like setting.
The 1920s -property is approached via a gated private driveway that leads to a generous shingle stone parking area and detached double garage. The house itself is set well back from the road behind a large area of ornamental garden which has a good-sized paved area and wraps around to the rear of the house where you will find a vegetable garden and greenhouse.
Approaching the property to the front you get your first sight of the glorious south-facing garden which stretches away from the house; it is truly delightful and enjoys a high degree of privacy. You enter 'The Thrift' under overhanging eaves, perfect for protecting you from inclement weather. The first room you arrive at is an impressive reception hallway which sets the tone for the generously proportioned rooms that can be found throughout the house. Utterly endearing, this super room has a delightful sitting area which centres on an original fireplace with an open grate. Panelled walls and an Arts and Crafts-style staircase add further character to the room. Off the reception hallway to the right you continue into a grand dual aspect dining room, perfect for formal/family dining or special occasions. It could also be easily utilised as a snooker/billiards and games room.
To the left of the hallway you will find a homely, bay-fronted sitting room, which again features an impressive open fireplace, this time with a rustic oak surround. From here, internal leaded French doors lead you into a truly impressive 29'0 reception/family room. Blessed with a superb triple aspect, this later day addition to the original house provides more than enough space for large gatherings with its numerous windows and doors showering the room with excellent natural light. A lovely wooden floor adds a richness and also a practicality to the room, and a step up to an open arch allows for some separation of the room if desired.
The kitchen can be found to the rear of the house and is very much a traditional affair, featuring modern shaker-style units with drop bar handles complemented by a dark grey roll-edged counter top. There is space for a range-style cooker and an American-style fridge/freezer as well as room for a breakfast table and an integrated dishwasher. There is an open brick arch, half-panelled walls, tiled floor and tiled splash-backs with side door leading out through a porch to the garden. The gas central heating boiler is positioned on the kitchen wall and a utility cupboard houses the washing machine and dryer.
Completing the ground floor accommodation is a good-sized shower room and a further reception room, which would make a great home office, a playroom, or a fantastic bedroom for a dependent relative or independent teenager.
Moving onto the first floor, you will find four double bedrooms and a family bathroom with a modern white suite, accessed off a long galleried landing. All four bedrooms are blessed with incredible views out over the garden with the principal bedroom also benefitting from fitted wardrobes and two of the other bedrooms also having eaves storage. You can also find excellent eaves storage off the first floor landing plus a roomy airing cupboard.
Outside, the property sits towards the rear of the generous plot which measures nearly 0.70 acres. Absolutely divine, it is beautifully landscaped with a plethora of established trees, plants and flowers. There are two well-positioned sun terraces that sit just outside of the house, one with a lovely stone patio and the other brick paved. The boundary of the garden features a variety of impressive native and non native trees and there is also a further seating area to the rear of the garden, looking towards the house. The garden is such an important aspect of this wonderful family home; incredibly private, it is a lovely space to relax, play ball games, entertain friends and family or, for those with green fingers, to potter away to your heart’s content.
