Description
Set approximately 1 mile outside the sought after village of Epworth, North Lincolnshire, The Cart Shed is a stunning architect designed re-development of an original barn site. The property - built in 2016 for the current owners, was the final of four barn re-developments at High Melwood Barns, involving the original barn building being demolished, and the new house being built on the original barn footprint. In the construction process the unique curved brick pillars of the cart bays were preserved and then rebuilt, to create an elongated feature corridor along the north side of the building, lined with fixed glazing and windows overlooking a lawned garden area with ornamental planting in raised beds.
The external walls of the house were constructed using commercially sourced re-claimed bricks, and traditional clay pantile tiles were used to construct the roof. Internally, solid oak doors, skirting and architrave were fitted throughout, with feature oak framed sliding glass screens separating the kitchen, dining and living room areas - allowing all the main living areas to be opened up to create one large open plan entertaining and living space if desired.
The property was designed so that the main living areas and bedrooms face south looking out across the main garden area, and the stunning open views beyond to the south, across a large shallow valley of arable farmland. In addition the property benefits from semi-vaulted ceilings throughout, and the main living areas and master bedroom all benefit from large glazed French doors leading out onto the deck areas overlooking the gardens and views to the south.
