Description

The original coastguard cottage was acquired in 1909 by Richard Jordan to transform into a family hotel. By the 1930s, it flourished as a prestigious hotel attracting celebrity guests such as Sir Laurence Olivier and Sir John Betjeman. It underwent a major renovation and expansion scheme in 1950 after being acquired by the Royal Air Force.

Since 2017, the hotel has undergone significant investment and refurbishment of all suites, apartments, and public spaces, totalling some £11.2m of capex.

The hotel was awarded as the '2nd Best Hotel by the Seaside' in the UK by The Times in 2022, and ‘Bronze & Silver for Small Hotel of the Year’ in 2024 and 2023 respectively by Devon Tourism Awards.

The hotel offers a variety of food & beverage outlets catering for the needs of both hotel guests and visitors with a total capacity of 360 covers. From The Lounge Bar, through to dinner at the Restaurant or the Outdoor Terrace, all F&B outlets have one common characteristic; local ingredients.

• The Restaurant: A beautiful dining room with a capacity for 90 guests offering excellent panoramic sea views over the cliffs. The food offering provides its guests a local experience with various menu propositions using fresh ingredients.

• The Wild Rock Spa: The spa has two treatment rooms offering various treatments focusing on reflexology.

• Indoor wet leisure facilities: The hotel has an indoor pool, below ground spa pool, a sauna, and a steam room.

• Outdoor pool: The outdoor pool allows guests to enjoy the sun in lounge chairs or read by the pool and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

The hotel also offers regular screenings in its 12-seater cinema room which can also be booked for private viewings.

The hotel features 33 lettable rooms, accommodating a range of group sizes. The accommodation has been finished to a luxury standard with stunning interior design including features such as freestanding roll top baths, rainfall showers and underfloor heating, depending on room type. The largest room is the Penthouse which features an open-plan kitchen, dining & living space with sea views as well as three bedrooms on a separate floor. Both the Signal House and the Secret Suite have their private outdoor space, with the Secret Suite being popular for couples to enjoy a private break given its secluded setting.
